The 2001 China
Gold Pandas have a new, distinct look. The raised edge rim has
disappeared allowing for a larger Panda image on the obverse.
The reverse now features a flat, frosted ring around the Temple
of Heaven. Also, for the first time since 1982, the gold Panda
denominations have been raised. The one ounce is now 500 yuan.
The other denominations are 200, 100, 50, and 20 yuan in descending
order. The China Mint continued the 2001 design in 2002.
