The United States Commemorative Statehood
Quarter Program began in 1999 and continued through 2008. Five
different quarters were produced each year for 10 years to honor
all 50 states. The quarters are produced and issued in the order
that the various states became part of the United States. The
statehood quarters have a common obverse design and a reverse
design chosen by the individual states. The United States Mint
had final say over the reverse design and often modified the
one selected by the state.
The Statehood Quarters were produced for circulation
at the Philadelphia (P) and Denver (D) Mints . Proof only coins
are produced at the San Francisco (S) mint in both a copper-nickel
clad and 90% silver composition.
