Missouri Plastic Sales Tax Tokens These plastic tokens denominated in Mills were used to pay sales taxes on items bought at retail. There were 10 Mills to the Cent. When sales taxes were 1/4 or 1/2 Cent, these tokens were ''necessary'' so that one did not overpay for their purchases. These plastic tokens were the last Mills used for this purpose. The first mills in use were cardboard and printed on Milk Bottle caps (see above). The next type of mills were stamped on zinc planchets.
