Liberty Seated silver dollars were produced
between 1840 and 1873 at the Philadelphia, New Orleans (O), San
Francisco (S) and Carson City (CC) Mints. Mintages were very
low for the majority of these coins and surviving examples are
quite scarce. In 1866, the motto "In God We Trust"
was added to the reverse above the eagle. Seated dollars minted
prior to 1866 are of the "no motto" variety. The seated
dollar was designed by Christian Gobrecht.
