2006 Ben Franklin Commemorative Silver Dollars

 

The 2006 Benjamin Franklin silver dollars were minted to commemorate the tercentenary of Franklin's birth in 1706. One of our greatest Americans, Franklin was a patriot, printer, inventor, and statesman of the highest order. To more fully recognize Franklin's significance, two different designs were authorized in both Proof and Satin Finish Uncirculated. The coins were offered as singles and in a couple of other options.

2006 Ben Franklin "Founding Father" Commemorative Silver Dollar

The "Founding Father" dollar's obverse features an image of Franklin taken fom an original bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and was designed by Don Everhart of the Mint's engraving staff. The reverse was designed by Donna Weaver, also of the mint's staff, and is taken from a 1776 Continental Currency dollar, featuring designs originally created by Ben Franklin. A mintage of 250,000 in all options was sold out at the mint in a short period of time.

2006 Ben Franklin "Scientist" Commemorative Silver Dollar

The Ben Franklin "Scientist" commemorative silver dollar's obverse was designed by Norman Nemeth, a sculptor-engraver on the mint's staff and features a representation of Franklin's famous kite experiment. The reverse features Franklin's "Join or Die" political cartoon, which was published in the Pennslyania Gazette on May 9, 1754, and was designed by Charles Vickers of the mint's staff. The mintage on this design was also limited to 250,000 in all options and was also sold out by the Mint.

Ben Franklin Firefighters Silver National Medal

Struck at the United Sates Mint in Philadelphia, 1992

This proof silver National Medal was struck in accordance with the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial Medal and Fire Service Bill of Rights Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President George Bush on October 12, 1992. This medal was issued to commemorate Franklin's contributions to the American Fire Service and to recognize the achievements and needs of America's fire service. This medal contains one ounce of pure silver and was struck in Proof at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features a portrait of Franklin and firefighters helmet and was designed by Thomas D. Rogers of the Mint staff. The reverse depicts a firefighter rescuing a child and was designed by T. James Ferrell of the Mint's staff.
