This beautiful silver dollar was struck to
commemorate the life and achievements of Dolley Madison, wife
of President James Madison. This coin bears the distinction of
having been designed by Tiffany & Co. The obverse features
a portrait of Dolley surrounded by gardenias against a background
of a domed temple that covers the Madison-era icehouse on the
grounds of Montpelier, Madison's Virginia home. The reverse features
a view of the portico of Montpelier. |
