The Wisconsin commemorative half dollar was
issued to mark the 100th anniversary of the Wisconsin Territorial
Government. The coin was designed by David Parsons, a University
of Wisconsin student. New York artist Benjamin Hawkins made changes
to conform with technical requirements. The obverse features
a badger on a log, the state emblem, and arrows representing
the Black Hawk War of the 1830s. The reverse has the Territorial
seal featuring a forearm holding a pickaxe over a mound of lead
ore and the inscription 4TH DAY OF JULY ANNO DOMINI 1836. Mintage
was 25,015.
WOW! This Wisconsin half dollar has an extremely
sharp strike with great lustre, nice toning and mark free surfaces.
PCGS population report shows that only 15 examples have received
a grade of MS-68 with none better. This is a true GEM!
