1938 Texas Commemorative Half Dollar NCG MS-66

The Texas commemorative silver half dollar celebrates the centennial of Texas' independence in 1836. Mintage of the Texas half started with the Philadelphia issue of 1934 and continued from 1935 through 1938 at all three mints. The coin was designed by Pompeo Coppini. The reverse depicts the kneeling figure of winged Victory with medallions on each side featuring Gen. Sam Houston and Col. Stephen Austin, founders of the Republic and State of Texas. A large five-pointed star behind the eagle on the obverse has long been a symbol of the Lone Star State. Mintage of the 1938 was only 3,780.

This Texas commemorative half dollar has a strong strike with decent lustre, nice toning and mark-free surfaces.
