The Roanoke commemorative half dollar was
issued in 1937 to mark the 350th anniversary of Sir Walter Raleigh's
"Lost Colony" and the birth of Virginia Dare, the first
white child born in British North America. The obverse features
the bust of Sir Walter Raleigh. The reverse has a figure representing
Ellinor Dare holding the infant Virginia. The coin was designed
by William Marks Simpson. Mintage was 29,030.
This beautiful Roanoke half dollar is sharply struck
with lovely toning and mark-free surfaces. A real Gem.
