1936 Rhode Island Commemorative Half Dollar PCGS MS-64

The Rhode Island commemorative half dollar was issued in 1936 to mark the 300th anniversary of the founding of Providence by Roger Williams. The obverse shows Roger Williams in a canoe being greeted by an Indian. The reverse features the anchor of Hope with a shield and mantling in the background. Although authorized as a commemorative for the founding of Providence, the city is not mentioned anywhere on the coin. The coin was designed by Arthur Graham Carey and John Howard Benson. Mintage was 15,011.

This lovely Rhode Island half dollar has a strong strike with good lustre and is virtually mark-free.
