This commemorative
silver quarter dollar was produced for the Board of Lady Managers
of the Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. The coin
was designed by Charles E. Barber and is known as the Isabella
quarter. These were sold at the exposition for $1. The obverse
displays the crowned bust of Queen Isabella of Spain who financed
Columbus's expedition. The reverse displays a kneeling female
with distaff and spindle, emblematic of women's industry. Only
24,214 coins were minted and sold.
This is a choice almost uncirculated,
nicely toned example graded AU-58 by NGC.
