The Huguenot-Walloon commemorative half dollar
was minted in 1924 to mark the 300th anniversary of the settling
of the Huegenots and Walloons in the New World. New Netherlands,
now New York, was founded in 1624 by Dutch colonists. The obverse
features the conjoined busts of Admiral Coligny and William the
Silent, neither of which was directly concerned with the occasion.
The reverse shows the ship Nieuw Nederland. The Huguenot-Walloon
half was designed by G.T. Morgan. Mintage was 142,080.
This Huguenot commemorative half dollar has a great
strike and decent lustre with slight toning. There are virtually
no contact marks.
