1922 Grant Memorial Commemorative Gold Dollar PCGS MS-66

The Grant commemorative gold dollar was issued in 1922 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Civil War General Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States. The obverse features a portrait of President Grant taken from a photograph by Matthew Brady. The reverse depicts the house in Point Pleasant, Ohio where Grant was born. A star that appears on the first issue was later removed creating two varieties, with or without stars. The star had no special significance to the design which was modeled by Laura Gardin Fraser. A Grant commemorative silver half dollar was issued at the same time with the same designs. Mintage of the Grant gold dollar with star was 5,016.

WOW! This beautiful Grant gold dollar is a real gem. This coin has an extremely strong strike with excellent lustre and mark-free surfaces. A PQ coin for the grade.
