The Gettysburg half dollar was minted to
commemorate the 1863 Civil War battle in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
The obverse features the conjoined busts of Union and Confederate
veterans. The reverse features two shields representing the Union
and Confederate Armies seperated by a double-bladed fasces. The
coin was designed by Pittsburgh sculptor Frank Vittor. Mintage
was 26,928.
This Gettysburg commemorative half dollar is sharply
struck with virtually mark-free surfaces. The lustre is decent
with some areas starting to tone. This a scarce and desireable
example of a popular design.
