The Elgin commemorative half dollar was minted
to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Elgin, Illinois.
The coins were sold to finance a Pioneer Memorial statue which
is pictured on the reverse of the coin. The head of a pioneer
is on the obverse. The Elgin half dollar and the Pioneer Memorial
were designed by Trygve Rovelstad. Mintage was 20,015.
This Elgin commemorative half dollar has a great
strike with nice satiny lustre with some toning near the rim.
The coin is virtually mark-free. A very lovely example.
