admission of Illinois to the Union, the first souvenir piece
for such an event. Illinois' favorite son, Abraham Lincoln, is
featured on the obverse while the reverse is based on Illinois'
state seal. The obverse of this coin was designed by George T.
Morgan of Morgan silver dollar fame. The reverse was designed
by JR Sinnock, who later designed the Roosevelt dime.
